Scotts of Somerset offers our Chard customers a specialist removal crew that will take care of everything, carefully packaging and loading your precious possessions.
Chard is the most southernmost town in Somerset. It lies close to the Devon border, 15 miles south west of Yeovil. The civil parish’s population currently exceeds 12,000 and, at an elevation of 121 metres it is also the highest town in the county. The Chard Reservoir nature reserve, lies northeast of the town, popular for bird watching, dog walking and fishing. The town is named Cerdre in the Domesday Book and is derived from the Old English word ceart which means a rough common, overgrown with gorse, bracken or broom.
The Chard tub-boat canal was completed in 1842, but was never commercially viable, unfortunately closing in 1868. Chard also claims to be the birthplace of powered flight, and it was here in 1848 that Victorian aeronautical pioneer John Stringfellow first demonstrated this.
